This summer, we invited you to join us on a few special events —scenic routes just outside Bristol and a poetry-and-nature walk in Eastville Park. Here’s a little recap of where we wandered and what we discovered along the way.
Ashton Hill Plantation 5km circular walk
Our first scenic walk took us to Ashton Hill Plantation, a tucked-away gem just next to Ashton Court but far less well-known. We started at Gatcombe Farm Shop, a family-run spot with a café and shelves full of fresh, locally sourced produce. (Handy tip: if you don’t have your own transport, the X9 bus stops nearby.)
After the walk, we treated ourselves to sandwiches and cake at the café—but the walk itself was every bit as rewarding. The circular track winds through peaceful woodland with sweeping views, and the highlight was a magnificent Redwood grove. The solid surfaced path made for easy walking, and with our Nordic poles in hand, we breezed up the uphill sections.

Failand 5km circular Nordic walk
Our second outing took us to Failand, a charming village on the edge of Bristol. This walk had everything—open fields, shady woodland, and even a surprise encounter with a ripe fig tree, proof of just how warm this summer has been.
Of course, no walk is complete without a café stop. In Failand, Honey and Ginger is an absolute gem—especially on Thursdays – Saturdays, when they serve up irresistible freshly made donuts. Definitely worth a return trip!

Poetry and Nature walk in Eastville Park
Our final summer social was a poetry walk through Eastville Park, beautifully organised by Subitha. Strolling among the trees, listening to words that flowed as naturally as the river, was such a grounding and inspiring experience. One of the highlights was pausing at this magnificent oak — a true guardian of the park — where we stopped to share reflections and take in its timeless presence. Moments like these remind us how deeply poetry and nature are intertwined.

All these walks reminded us how many hidden spots are right on Bristol’s doorstep. We loved exploring them with you and connecting with the beautiful natural world around us.
